What is your favorite genre of music? Do you have a favorite group?
I don’t have a favorite genre, but I am a bit stuck in the ‘90s. So, depending on my mood, Dave Matthews Band, Barenaked Ladies, Pearl Jam or Salt-N-Pepa can really get me going!
Favorite sport or activity to play?
I played hockey since I was seven all the way through college. Nowadays, I enjoy playing golf even though I am not that good at it. In the winter, I like to ski.
Outside our industry, who inspires you and why?
Mental toughness is very underrated. Becca Pizzi, who runs the daycare for my children, also ran The World Marathon Challenge….twice. If you are not familiar, it consists of running SEVEN MARATHONS on SEVEN CONTINENTS in SEVEN DAYS!!! She is first woman to ever do this, putting her in the Guinness Book of World Records. At one point, she pulled her hamstring on mile two of marathon six, but figured out a way to persevere. Not much that requires more mental toughness than that.
Who is/was your mentor or who do you look up to in our industry?
At Standish, I was fortunate to learn the fundamentals of fixed income investing from three extremely talented and humble people: Raman Srivastava, David Horsfall, and Brendan Murphy. At LMCG, my role has allowed me to work very closely with teams that each embrace very different investment styles. From Growth and Value stock pickers to Multi-Factor quants to Relative Value Credit hedge fund managers, I have had a unique experience with each, which has broadened my investment capabilities. I am excited for the continued growth of each of these relationships.
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
– Ferris Bueller.
Where is your favorite place that you have visited?
I have family with a vacation home in Bar Harbor, Maine and – aside from the painful car ride – it is definitely my favorite place to visit. It is where I got married (and proposed) to my wife, so it holds sentimental value and great memories for me. If you visit, I highly recommend a bike ride through the carriage trails in Acadian National Park, or a round of golf at Kebo Valley, the eighth-oldest golf course in the country.
Bora Bora is a very close second.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Aside from Bar Harbor, there are so many other national parks AND so many top golf courses that I have never visited or played. I hope to make a dent in both of those lists.
What is the last book you read? Or what is a book you recommend?
For basics on investing, Expectations Investing: Reading Stock Prices for Better Returns by Michael Mauboussin was recommended to me and I would definitely pass that recommendation along. I recently read Ray Dalio’s, Principles: Life and Work, and thought it offered some very valuable lessons to learn.
I read Gone Girl on my honeymoon, which was probably not the best timing, but kept my interest nonetheless.
What is your favorite movie or series?
Again, I am bit stuck in the ‘90s. It is really tough to compete with Good Will Hunting, The Usual Suspects, Carlito’s Way, Jerry Maguire, What About Bob, Seinfeld, and Friends.
What is your favorite food?
This is always a tough one. Maybe because I just had this last night, but Eggplant Parm with homemade pasta and “gravy” is definitely up there.
What are you most proud of?
I am most passionate about and most proud of my family. I have two kids – James is four and Claire is two. There is nothing like spending quality time and experiencing new things with them. It is so fun to watch my son skate and listen to my daughter’s belly laugh. Some time off, out to a nice dinner with their mom isn’t too bad either!
